The number of bloggers unsatisfied with the quality of traffic from Entrecard has grown over the past month. John Cow who made his last drop of Entrecard, Becky who also dropped her Entrecard and Ritu who bid goodbye to Entrecard and is giving away all his credits are among the Bloggers who gave up on Entrecard. Here are the reasons why they removed Entrecard from their blogs.
- Increasing Bounce Rate.
- Unfair Blog Ranking
- Unjustified High Price For Advertisement
- The Need To Drop Your Card To Other Blogs
Somehow, the quality of traffic from Entrecard is not good. Google Analytics can back you up with that but removing Entrecard from your blog is just a bad move. Instead of complaining about the poor quality of traffic you get from Entrecard, why not do something to improve it. Instead of being envious at how other bloggers are ranked higher over “your popular blog”, why not accept the fact that your strategy is not working and do something about it. Instead of bitching about how expensive the advertising price of a blog with 22 subscribers compared to “your heavily subscribed blog”, why not accept the fact that the Blogosphere has a lot of complex ranking systems which may or may not please you. After all, Entrecard is not all about “YOUR BLOG”. It’s about building community and traffic.
Here are the benefits you let go when you remove Entrecard from your blog.
- Lots of traffic that have the potential of becoming your subscriber or your avid reader.
- You let go of the benefits of being discovered by other bloggers.
- You let go of the opportunity to advertise in other blogs. Sad for you, you need to pay thousand of dollars to advertise at Problogger.net and JohnChow.com.
- You let go of improving your Alexa Traffic Rank. Since most Entrecard users are bloggers, most of them have Alexa toolbar installed in their computer.
- You let go of potential income for your blog.
- You let go of the chance to network with other bloggers.
- You let go of the opportunity to shop at Entrecard.
- You let go of the being linked to by other Entrecard users.
- Your blog is missing possible comments on your post.
And the list goes on.
Here are some of my suggestions to help you with your Entrecard problems.
Increasing Bounce Rate
- To reduce your blog’s bounce rate, change your URL at Entrecard and have it directed to your interesting post.
- You can also place your widget at the bottom of your post to keep your visitors scrolling down your blog and peruse your post.
- Catch your visitor’s attention with a “killer post title”.
- Drop your Entrecard to relevant sites.
- Submit your blog to the relevant category at Entrecard.
Unfair Blog Ranking
Since when was a blog ranking in the Blogosphere fair? Not even Technorati and Alexa. The rules were designed to even out the playing field and allow small bloggers to compete with the Big ones.
Unjustified High Price For Advertisement
John Cow complained on his post that the price to advertise on other blogs are unjustified. Well, I have the same feeling about the price you need to pay ReviewMe to get a JohnCow review. I guess it boils down to one thing, that there are different systems in place that sometimes you need more than traffic to get what you want.
The Need To Drop Your Card
Then don’t drop your card to other blogs. There are other ways you can do to earn Entrecard credits. Accept bids from other blogs to advertise on your blog, join Entrecard contests or request from other Entrecard users. ![]()
I’ll be waiting for your response. Thanks for your time. ![]()

First, I would like to applaud for your loyalty towards Entrecard.
Also thank you for posting such an insightful article on how Entrecard can be used to gain quality traffic and the strategies behind placing it for maximum exposure and such.
Like I had written on my post, the main reason I am dropping EC is certainly the poor quality of traffic. In my personal opinion, the system is being abused by chain droppers. Well, that happens everywhere I guess. Also I am not bitching about EC in my post, I am simply saying I don’t have the time to manage another email account to manage so to speak because of the messages.
I do not have any problems paying certain amount of EC credits to advertise on any blogs, be it just strating out or popular. It’s just a preference. I personally wanted to try out EC for a while and so far the bounce rate and the traffic doesn’t seem to be promising.
But again it might be the way I write, it might the content I provide or it just might be Entrecard needs a better management. It could be either.
Anyways, I would like to thank you for providing an insightful article on Entrecard as to how to effectively use it and how to maximize what comes along with it. Thank You!

Yeah, I dont know why someone would remove it. Why not just leave it there and ignore the thing, it will still improve your blog as you said above.

I agree.. you can also gain rss subscribers from your entrecard visitors.

Although I have also noticed the trend that my bounce rate and time on site are much lower on average for entrecard referrals… They also have the hihgest rate of commenting.
I guess when you’ve decided you’re already “top dog” you don’t understand a system that doesn’t work perfectly for you. I’ll happily accept whoever fills those “big shoes” John Chow and others have left. Luckily the near absence of activity on their part in the community should make that job rather simple.

Some people just need a reason to complain, I’m guessing. I like entrecard. I’ve seen my visitors DOUBLE since I added it, and I’ve got no problem with that.

Why is everyone leaving while I am working on a 125×125 banner just to join them. I remembered last time when I wanted to join BlogRush, the whole thing crushed and I throw away my thoughts of joining it.

@ Wayne,
Give Entrecard a try.

Even if I don’t really get high quality traffic, I gain a lot by browing through the sites during the times I drop my card. It’s worth keeping.

Yeah, give Entrecard a try.. there are lots of good stuff happening in our community. Lots of good people with great blogs. I get most of my links from Entrecard members, I got good comments on my blog from them too. I don’t see why this can be bad for anyone’s blog. Great post bloggingmix.

Rocky:
This is a great post. I don’t get a lot of drop on my blog, so my price is lowering. However, I do get some new readers from entrecard, which has the same interests.
Great to see you making good progress.

Well spoken. I have given some thought as to why other blogs are seemingly so much more popular, but you’re right in that it’s more to do with other factors and not just what you think of your blog. It’s very easy to dismiss the idea of being wrong and blame things on others, but some times, it does all point back to numero uno.
Good post!

even if i did decide to stop being as active in EC - i doubt I would drop it - sure maybe move it more to the bottom or something - but why woudl I remove something that is free and brings in traffic.

This is a very good post, written in plain English which make it easily understood by non-native English readers like me. In general, your blog posts are easily understood because of the kind of English you use. Good on you!

Great post. Moving my EC to the bottom of my blog is a bad move. I never advertise on those blogs, but changing the URL from the main page to a post page is definitely worth a try. Thanks for the suggestion.
Stephan Miller responded on 29 Jan 2008 at 3:33 pm #
Thanks for the post. I have been regulating my card dropping so that the cost of advertising on my site does not jump higher than I think it is worth. There seems to be a balance somewhere and obviously a few entrecarders need to chill with the card dropping to make sure the cost to advertise on their site is really worth it.
Everything is gradual.

To reduce high bounce rate ,firstly we should do simple survey to ask what actually our readers want.In fact we can find a loyalty readers from Entrecard as long as we provide a good info and this info can help to solve their problem. What i do now is try to know bloggers that i drop to their website-We will build up some rapport then we will exchange link and ideas. This will be better than we just drop EC and run.

Your post is spot on! I have enjoyed a lot of traffic from Entrecard and contrary to popular belief, it has helped my blog in numerous ways!
My traffic has increased, which in turn has helped my Alexa rank rocket from 2 million to just over 500,000. The ranking for my site is gradually getting better and I am convinced that Entrecard is the main reason for this.
I get regular comments from a few ‘Entrecarders’ and my number of subscribers has rocketed also.
I now get more organic clicks from Google because of the constant flow of traffic from Entrecard.
The pricing doesn’t bother me whatsoever as I joined Entrecard to be part of a community of fellow bloggers.
I put a lot of hard work into Entrecard and I try to comment on all of the blogs that I visit. However, I don’t comment when I don’t find the blog useful, interesting or if I can’t contribute to the post.
